Real Uniswap Exchange vs Fake Copies: Spot the Difference

A fake Uniswap page can look identical to the real one: same logo, same colors, same swap box. What gives it away is where it lives and what it asks you to do. This page compares the genuine exchange with typical copies so you can tell them apart in seconds. We’re an independent explainer site, so nothing here is published by Uniswap Labs, and we don’t offer trading ourselves.

First, What “Official Uniswap” Actually Means

Uniswap is a protocol, a set of smart contracts for swapping tokens through liquidity pools. It runs on Ethereum and many other chains, including Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche and Unichain. Uniswap Labs is the company that builds the official products on top of it:

UNI is the governance token. It isn’t a ticket you need to “claim” before trading.

Side-by-Side: Genuine vs Fake

Feature Official Uniswap Typical Fake
Domain app.uniswap.org / uniswap.org Extra words, hyphens, other TLDs, punycode letters
How you got there Typed or bookmarked Sponsored ad, DM, email, social reply
First prompt Connect wallet Signature or “validate wallet”
Account None, non-custodial Asks to log in or “restore” with phrase
Support support.uniswap.org, [email protected] Telegram, WhatsApp or Discord DMs
Rewards No surprise claims “Claim UNI airdrop now”
Apps Official store listings Unknown publisher or sideloaded files

Spotting a Drainer Signature

Not every scam asks for your phrase. Some only need one click. Watch for these prompts when you didn’t expect them:

  • Permit signatures: off-chain messages granting a spender access to a token. They can look harmless because they cost no gas.
  • setApprovalForAll: grants control over all NFTs in a collection.
  • Unlimited approvals to unknown contracts: a spender address that isn’t the Uniswap router you meant to use.

On the real app, approvals happen when you swap a token for the first time. Even then, you can choose a limited approval amount. A request before you’ve picked tokens or entered an amount is a strong warning sign.

Getting to the Genuine Exchange

1

Type app.uniswap.org into the address bar yourself.

2

Confirm the domain exactly, with no characters added or substituted.

3

Look for HTTPS, but don’t treat the padlock as proof of legitimacy.

4

Save a bookmark and use it every time.

5

Connect your wallet and review price, price impact, fees and slippage before confirming.

For the mobile and browser wallet, start from uniswap.org and follow its links to the App Store (“Uniswap: Crypto & NFT Wallet”), Google Play, or the Chrome Web Store, where the Uniswap Extension is published by “Universal Navigation Inc”, Uniswap Labs’ legal name.

Social Channels You Can Trust

The official X account is @Uniswap. Help comes through support.uniswap.org or [email protected]. Uniswap Labs doesn’t message people first, and no real support agent will ever ask for your recovery phrase.

Quick Red-Flags List

  • Unfamiliar domain or a link from a stranger
  • “Your wallet needs validating/syncing”
  • Free tokens with a timer
  • A token whose contract address doesn’t match the project’s official listing
  • Recipient addresses copied from transaction history (address poisoning risk)
  • Anyone asking for your 12 or 24 words
The Golden Rule of Self-Custody

The golden rule: never type your seed phrase into any website, app form, chat or support request, under any circumstances.

What to Do After Interacting with a Fake

1

Disconnect the site in your wallet settings.

2

Revoke the approvals it obtained using a tool like revoke.cash, opened by typing its address.

3

Transfer remaining assets to a safe address if any approvals were granted.

4

If the recovery phrase was revealed, create a new wallet with a new phrase and move everything. The old one can’t be trusted again.

5

Report the domain to your browser and to Uniswap support.

Proceed Directly to the Verified Protocol

Always verify the URL directly in your address bar before executing swaps or approving token spending allowances.

Security Tip: Type app.uniswap.org directly into your browser navigation bar.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Uniswap a company or a protocol?

Both terms are used. The protocol is a set of smart contracts, and Uniswap Labs is the company building the official app and wallet.

Which networks does the official Uniswap app support?

Ethereum plus many others, such as Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche and Unichain. You choose the network in the app.

What is a permit signature?

It’s a signed message that authorizes a spender to use your tokens. It’s legitimate on the real app but dangerous on a fake one.

Should I trust a link from a Discord moderator?

No. Type the official address yourself. Impersonators often pose as moderators.

Why does the Chrome extension list “Universal Navigation Inc”?

That’s the legal company name of Uniswap Labs, so it’s the expected publisher.

Can I undo a swap made on a fake site?

On-chain transactions can’t be reversed. Focus on revoking approvals and securing remaining funds.
